90,000+ Cadillac and Chevrolet Vehicles Recalled for Transmission Issue Causing Wheel Lockups

General Motors (GM) has issued a major recall affecting over 90,000 Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles due to a transmission defect that could lead to sudden front-wheel lockups, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. If you own a Cadillac CT4, CT5, CT6, or a Chevrolet Camaro, you may be affected by this recall and should take immediate action.

What Vehicles Are Affected?

This recall applies to the following GM models equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission:

  • 2020-2021 Cadillac CT4
  • 2020-2021 Cadillac CT5
  • 2019-2020 Cadillac CT6
  • 2020-2022 Chevrolet Camaro

If your vehicle falls within these model years, you should check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to determine if your car is included in the recall.

What Is the Problem?

The recall stems from a defect in the transmission control valve, which can experience excessive wear over time. This issue can cause:

Harsh or erratic shifting
Momentary front-wheel lockups while driving
An increased risk of a crash

While GM states that these lockups are rare, the potential safety risk is serious, especially at high speeds or in heavy traffic conditions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported at least one accident that may be linked to this defect.

What Is GM Doing to Fix It?

GM will address the problem by installing a software update in affected vehicles. This update will:

  • Monitor the transmission control module for signs of excess wear
  • Detect the issue approximately 10,000 miles before a wheel lockup could occur
  • Temporarily shift the transmission into fifth gear to prevent the condition from worsening

The repair will be provided at no cost to vehicle owners.

When and How Will Owners Be Notified?

GM will begin mailing official recall notices to owners starting April 21, 2025. If you believe your vehicle is affected, don’t wait—take action now to ensure your safety.

What Should You Do Next?

If your vehicle is on the recall list, follow these steps:

1️⃣ Check your VIN on the NHTSA recall website to confirm if your car is affected.
2️⃣ Contact Cadillac at 800-333-4223 or Chevrolet at 800-222-1020 to schedule a free software update.
3️⃣ Visit your local dealership to have the issue resolved before it leads to more severe transmission problems.
