Tesla has issued a recall for over 27,000 Cybertrucks from the 2024 model year due to a rearview camera delay. The delay in the camera’s image display when the vehicle is put in reverse increases the risk of collisions, especially given the Tesla Cybertruck’s limited rear visibility due to its large A-pillars and small rear window.
If your Tesla Cybertruck has experienced repeated issues like this, it may qualify as a lemon under the California Lemon Law. Contact Lemon Lawyers LA to discuss your options for legal action and potential compensation.
Details of the Recall
The recall affects most 2024 Tesla Cybertrucks, specifically those manufactured between November 13, 2023, and September 14, 2024. Tesla found that the vehicle’s system might not complete its shutdown process before booting up again, causing a 6-8 second delay in displaying the rearview camera image, well beyond the federal requirement of 2 seconds.
Tesla has already issued an over-the-air (OTA) software update to fix the problem. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by November 25, 2024. To resolve the issue, Tesla encourages owners to install the update immediately.
No Reported Injuries
Tesla has received 45 warranty claims and four field reports related to this issue but, fortunately, no reports of accidents or injuries. Nevertheless, Tesla’s recall serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of unresolved safety issues in electric vehicles.
Previous Tesla Recalls
This is the fifth recall for the Tesla Cybertruck since its release in November 2023. Previous recalls have addressed problems with the accelerator pedal, windshield wipers, and exterior trim. With the Cybertruck being Tesla’s first electric truck, the stakes are high, and any recurring issues could classify these vehicles as lemons under California’s lemon law.
