VinFast VF 8 Recall for Unexpected Steering Movement (2023–2025)

VinFast has announced a safety recall involving its VF 8 electric SUVs after identifying a software-related issue that may cause unexpected steering behavior. The problem affects the vehicle’s advanced driver assistance systems and could interfere with a driver’s ability to maintain control. Because steering is critical to safe vehicle operation, this issue raises serious safety concerns for both drivers and passengers. VinFast is addressing the issue through a corrective software update. Owners are encouraged to take this recall seriously and have their vehicles inspected as soon as possible. If repeated issues persist, affected drivers may have rights under California lemon law.

What Is the Problem?

According to recall information, a software calibration error within the VF 8’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) may cause the lane keeping assist feature to activate unexpectedly during certain driving situations, such as wide turns. When this occurs, the system may provide steering inputs that are difficult for the driver to override. This unexpected steering movement can increase the risk of a crash, especially if the driver is unable to quickly regain full control of the vehicle.

What Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall impacts VinFast VF 8 electric SUVs from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 model years. In the United States, more than 6,300 vehicles are included in the recall. Additional VF 8 vehicles from the same model years have also been recalled in Canada for the same issue. Owners of any 2023–2025 VinFast VF 8 should check their VIN to determine whether their vehicle is included.

What Is VinFast Doing to Fix It?

VinFast will correct the issue by updating the software that controls the ADAS and lane keeping assist system. This update is designed to prevent the system from activating unexpectedly and applying unintended steering input. Recall repairs are provided at no cost to vehicle owners. In some cases, the update must be performed at an authorized VinFast service center rather than over-the-air.

When and How Will Owners Be Notified?

VinFast will notify affected owners by mail with instructions on how to schedule the recall repair. Owners may also be able to check their recall status by entering their VIN on VinFast’s website or through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Because recall notices are sometimes missed, drivers are encouraged to proactively verify whether their VF 8 is affected.
